Assessments

The purpose of an assessment is to identify what specific areas a child or young person requires specialised support in. It is an important part of understanding your child and their needs. Michelle Pittaway provides thorough, evidence-based assessment of intelligence, learning (specific learning disorders), ADHD and mood disorders for children and young people age 6-16. ADHD assessment and mood disorder assessment can also be provided for persons age 17 and over. Assessments are charged at the psychologists’ hourly rate, and may take up to 10 hours of the psychologists’ time. Please see below for our fee schedule for assessments.

NDIS assessments are available through self and plan managed schemes. The NDIS sets the hourly rate for psychological  intervention, assessment, recommendations, and therapy at $214.41 an hour, which is utilised in the fee structure for NDIS assessments - click here for NDIS Fee Schedule.

Available Assessments:

Cognitive Assessments (age 6-16 years): assesses an individual's cognitive capacity across various domains. The assessment results will provide feedback regarding an individual strengths and weaknesses in terms of their thinking and reasoning skills, so that we can understand the best way to support each individual child. This is completed through a comprehensive initial consultation to gather important background information and the administration of standardised tests, with results provided in a formal report and discussed in a feedback session to explain findings, provide recommendations, and opportunities to clarify any information.

Cognitive and Achievement Assessments (age 6-16 years):  assesses an individual's cognitive capacity, and their level of academic achievement. These assessments will highlight if an individual is performing academically in line with their ability, as well as providing insight into the child's unique strengths and weaknesses both cognitively, and academically. These assessments are utilised to identify learning disorders and will assist in ruling out behavioural barriers. The information gained from these assessments will also support recommendations in how best to support each individual child. This is completed through a comprehensive initial consultation to gather important background information and the administration of standardised tests, with results provided in a formal report and discussed in a feedback session to explain findings, provide recommendations and opportunities to clarify any information.

ADHD assessment (age 6 and over): assesses symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder through comprehensive evaluation of direction observation in various settings and from information gathered from various sources, including parents/carers and teachers.  This is completed through a comprehensive initial consultation to gather important background information and the administration of standardised tests, with results provided in a formal report and discussed in a feedback session to explain findings, provide recommendations and opportunities to clarify any information.
